This job may stink – literally!
Composting in our schools is a district wide program. Edina was awarded a 2 year grant from Hennepin county to get this program running for the entire district. What you will see is a reduction in DAILY waste from 9 bags of trash on the average day to 1.5 of trash, 1 of recycling and 7 to be composted. What a great way for our school/community to be green. Please come and help!
We need parent volunteers to get our composting program going. We will need your help at lunch during the hours of 11:15 am – 12:45 pm on your scheduled day. Here’s what you will be doing:
- helping the kids place their lunch waste in the correct bin – compost, recycling or trash
- keeping the kids moving through the process
- ensuring the right materials go into the correct bins. (You'll have tongs)
- teaching the student volunteers how to help the other students
You will be contacted to confirm the exact date(s) that we will need you. In the comment section you may list the date(s) that would work best for you. We will be using parent volunteers for 2-3 months until we have student monitors who can handle the task. Please contact Susie Van Hoomissen at (952) 941-5738 or hoomzger@msn.com if you have any questions.
